The Petal Dish is a tiny, feather-light vessel inspired by a series of functional ceramics created whilst living in Japan. The dish is suited to displaying favourite collections, holding tealights and serving dressings, sides or shoyu at the table.
The Petal Dish is sculpted by hand from a ball of lightly grogged stoneware clay, wedged through with wild Pease Bay clay which breaks through the glaze. Throughout the making process it has been slowly dried and worked into to create a shape that is thin and delicate, like the sakura petals from which it takes its form. The dish has been coated with a tin white glaze and daubs of wild oyster shell and beach sand from the Scottish Highlands. This runs through the tin white glaze in twirling patterns reminiscent of young cauliflower leaves.
Care: gentle handwashing is recommended. The Petal Dish is not suitable for dishwashers, microwaves or heating in the oven.
